VIRUS AND MALWARE REMOVAL OVERVIEW

No one wants to open their computer and find out they have been hacked, got a virus or malware, ransomware or any host of other security issues. This is a stressful situation and we are here for you, we explain everything, do the research and get you back up and running in no time. Not all security situations can be fixed back to prior to the situation, however, we provide the best alternatives and get you as close to whole as we possibly can.

BACKUPS, BACKUPS & BACKUPS

No matter if you are a home user or a business user, backups are one of the most important things you can do to thwart security situations, scammers, spyware, viruses, malware and ransomware. If you are one of the unfortunate souls that gets hit by ransomware, a backup can be your savior. Ransomware, at a high level, encrypts the end users computer, attempts to propagate through the network to infect other computers on the network and then demand a sum of money for the decryption key. It’s recommended not to pay the ransom since there is a high probability you will not get the decryption key.
It’s important to have several backups, off-site, the cloud and local, which become extremely important if someone downloads ransomware through a website, attachments or other attack vectors.

For home users, one way to protect yourself against attacks is to deploy a cloud back up solution. If you look at the bottom of our webpage, you will see an affiliate link to iDrive, which is a great and inexpensive back up solution.

SCAMMERS

Scammers have become increasingly active since the start of the COVID-19 lockdowns and have only increased their attacks on our older adults (55+ years old). The scammers have lists and know your age and other demographic data when they call or you call based on an email or text message.

Several things to be aware of; first being, don’t let anyone remote into your computer unless you are absolutely sure it’s required and safe. If there is ever a doubt, you are welcome to call our mobile number anytime with questions or concerns and we will guide you the best we can.
The second thing is, no business will have you get gift cards to repay an overpayment or to send them any more for anything. Most store customer service desks have signs warning about this type of scam.
Third, the scammers prey heavily on the very elderly, attempting to frighten them into allowing remote control, bank access or other methods of scamming.

Be aware, over 95% of scam calls originate from India. They are primarily sales, with call centers pretending to be Best Buy, Apple, Dell, Amazon, and more, or pretending to be United States government law enforcement agencies, usually FBI, IRS or some local law enforcement.
Scammers, if they know they are not winning the call, will attempt to encrypt the end users computer in order to get at least some money. Again, call us if you are suspect of any email, text or call.

VIRUSES, MALWARE AND RANSOMWARE

Of course, the biggest issue still are malicious downloads, inadvertent opening of email attachments, installing software, connecting to open networks, phishing attempts and many other ways in order to access an end users data.

It’s of utmost importance to have some type of antivirus and/or antimalware software running on your computers and actively scanning, as well as on a schedule. Microsoft does provide an adequate application, Microsoft Defender, so if nothing else, make sure that program is running.

We don’t recommend Norton, McAfee or Webroot as they are resource draining programs. We do highly recommend BitDefender Total Security as it uses less resources than the previously mentioned ones, provides a great anti-tracking application for web browsers, daily VPN access and other security features.
